So you are choosing entertainment for your wedding, birthday party, corporate event or other celebration. You have lots to consider.
What kind of music do you want? Do you want Salsa music, Country, Zydeco, a String Quartet, today's rap/dance music, or a variety band? What kind of vibe or feel do you want for your celebration? Will you need a DJ or a live band?
Consider the venue for your celebration. Is space limited to a DJ, 4 piece band or can the venue accommodate an 8 piece band with live horns?
What is your budget? A DJ will be more affordable than an 8 piece live band.
If you decide on a live band, here are a few tips:
- Go see the band live. If you can’t see the band live, check them out on Youtube.
- Watch the band to see if they are having fun.
- Watch the crowd to see if they are having fun.
- Does the band play the style of music that you desire?
- Does the band sound good live (on Youtube)?
- Does the band fit your budget?
- Beware of recorded demos. Bands can spend weeks in the studio getting it right. A live Youtube performance is probably a more accurate representation.
- Inquire about the band’s background as well as their reputation in the community. You want dependable professionals that will be prepared for your celebration.
- Inquire about availability and review the contract before signing.
- Will the band learn that special song for your celebration?
- Bands generally require a deposit to hold your date. However, full payment does not come until the band is set up and ready to play.
